Stoneridge-Orlaco introduces Blind Spot Information System ‘Digital SideEye’ 27 July 2023

Stoneridge-Orlaco introduces the Digital SideEye Blind Spot Information System (BSIS). Digital SideEye is the latest in a long line of innovative products from Stoneridge-Orlaco, building on the success of its previous analog model to deliver even greater levels of safety and reliability.

Reducing blind spots
Digital SideEye is specifically designed for on-road trucks and buses and is suitable for both left-hand drive and right-hand drive vehicles. The system actively alerts the driver when cyclists, pedestrians or other road users are present in the blind spot of the vehicle. Thanks to Digital SideEye, the driver is not only warned by visual and audible warnings but he can also observe the dangerous situation directly via the high-resolution camera and the in-cab HD display. By significantly reducing blind spots and enhancing situational awareness, Digital SideEye improves safety for all road users.

The system has been designed to meet the requirements set by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt – KBA) and the Direct Vision Standard required in Greater London in the United Kingdom. In the latter case, the system is expanded with an external speaker.

High definition quality
The Digital SideEye system includes an advanced digital EMOS camera and ELED monitor, guaranteeing exceptional image quality and giving drivers a pin-sharp view of the blind spot. This heightened visibility greatly reduces the risk of accidents, as drivers can accurately and quickly identify the presence of other road users in their blind spots. With Digital SideEye, the combination of improved image quality and expanded field of vision significantly contributes to a safer driving experience.

Lane Change Assistant
Digital SideEye only detects moving vulnerable road users and ignores stationary objects, allowing drivers to drive more safely in crowded, low-speed urban environments. When the vehicle exceeds a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph), Digital SideEye promptly notifies the driver about nearby vehicles in the adjacent lane to ensure safer overtaking. To prevent false alerts, the system ignores stationary elements like guard rails or concrete barriers. As a Lane Change Assistant, Digital SideEye is specifically optimized to minimize blind spot collisions during lane changes and merging maneuvers.
